Looking Into the Future
My personal excitement level is starting to hit full gear. Normally it happens earlier than this, but the older I get, the more it seems delayed. But when thinking about the team this year, I couldn't help but think about the team next year, more specifically, the offensive line. Things are going to look a lot different next year. Nearly the entire line will look different, unless they're willing to keep large cap numbers on the guards or rework their contracts. Next year, Robert Hunt's cap number is around $24 million, and Damien Lewis is hovering around $17 million. That's a lot. They may have a long-term young center in Sam Hecht, but he needs time to get stronger and heavier. The only player who will have a locked-in spot is Monroe Freeling. This team may have missed an opportunity in this year's draft. Freeling was a great pick, but they probably should've used a mid-round pick on a guard to groom for next year. They've limited their options. I guess I should just focus on this year.
